by Danny Skinner, Captain of the Club
It is with considerable sadness that the club has to announce that Paddy passed away, suddenly but peacefully, this Sunday.
Bonesy has asked me to confirm the funeral arrangements for next Friday 27 October.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. at Holy Ghost Fathers' Church, Woodland Rd Bickley (behind Bickley Park cricket club). The cremation will take place at Beckenham Crematorium at 12.45 followed by a wake at Bromley Cricket Club, Plaistow Lane.
All club members are most welcome and it would be lovely if we could have a good turn out.
It is proposed that there be a minute's silence before the 1st team game and the other teams may be making similar arrangements. There will be various old friends popping in to raise a glass to Paddy.
For those of you newer members Paddy was not only responsible for the arrival on this planet of Kevin "Bones" Solan but marginally more importantly he put a huge amount into the club, not the least of which was in arranging for the purchase of the ground itself.
However, before we get too maudlin and sycophantic I just wanted to recall the time PH were playing Charlton Park. Our fly-half was coming in for a huge amount of incessant stick from one of the spectators.
I was skipper and my opposite number was also playing in the centre. At one point the ball was kicked over the hedge beyond their pitches. During the short break in play their skipper came rushing up to me to apologise for the barracking spectator. He said he had no idea who he was but he would ask their committee to have a word with him.
The fly half was Kevin Solan and you can probably guess who the mystery spectator was.
Paddy Solan passed away on Sunday 15th October 2006.
Rest in peace Paddy.
