1st XV
2nd XV
3rd XV
19 February 2005
For the third week in a row the 3rd XV started well, personally i think its becuase they are such an ugly bunch the opposition are scared at first until they realise they are a big bunch of pansies.
After losing a few players to higher teams and others to injury we had to do some jigging around in the pack with Keith New (and his tan) in at prop.
For the first five minutes the ball was moved about and if it wasnt for a few fumbled balls Park could have been a couple of tries up.
Foots Cray started to get more of the ball and tested the Park defence a few more times than we would have liked. Park mostly held out but there backs moved around and created space for the over lap a couple of times and went in at half time 14 - 0 up with two converted tries.
Park managed to hold on to the ball a bit more in the second half and after some good breaks finally managed to break Foots Crays back line and Gary Cook ran half the length of the pitch to score under the posts.
The back row of Keith Norris, out of position at no.8, Paul Murphy and James Sheehan made some important tackles to keep Foots Cray at bay. However they did manage to get another break away try after a pass down Parks back line was intercepted and no one was in a position to catch him, except Steve Cheyne (johns sensible younger brother) who nearly caught the toe rag.
Alex Medwell-Bates and Leon Campbell played well in the centres off of Pete Marshall's attacking play and were usually solid in defence, especially Alex who put in some crunching tackles.
All round it was another very enjoyable game, well thats what the players told me anyway.
The game finished with Dick Russ making a cameo appearence and he nearly scored a try from a few yards out.
21-7 to a deserving Foots Cray side in a game that should have been a lot closer.
More people need to get to training, if they want to start in the fifteen though as Keith is going to have a few hard decisions to make soon.
