30th September 2006You will have to forgive me for lack of memory as to how the game went, slight lack of memory caused by alcohol abuse last night!!!
Park started the game in confident mood after a good win last week. Having Old Gravesendians result last week we knew it would be a tough game and thats exactly what we got.
We stuck to our initial game plan of slinging the ball wide, which resulted in Mark Forder going round his winger and in at the corner for a superb wingers score. 5-0
OGs soon fought back with a penalty and a converted try of their own.
Park's defence was superb in the centres and OGs were limited to trying to bash it through the fringes for the rest of the game as they had to abandon the wide game with no way through
Park sent a penalty of their own over. Then a quick tap by Nick Waddell, sent tom bailey crashing through, who then popped the ball off to myself for a easy fall over the line. 13-10
OGs then scored a penalty at the end of the half as they got themselves on top in the game, and the half time whistle came at a good time for us.
Park knew they had to up it, and that they did in the 2nd half. The defence continued to hold firm limiting OGs to just a penalty in the 2nd half which Park matched.
The winning score came from some solid forward play and again slinging it wide, for me to go in at the corner from around the 22. Converted
Buoyed on by the 2s support from the sideline (thanks for that) Park held out with some great defence and clearing of the lines as OGs looked for the score to bring the game level.
Final score was 23-16
Man of the match for me could easily go to the OGs coach who did more to upset the ref and his own side than we could ever have done!
But on our side, man of the match was Richard Gough for superb defence and great hands to set up both of the Park tries
Forwards stepped it up a gear and Mark Trebess and Paul Russ had one of the best games in the shirt and the half backs of Nick Waddell and Russ Turner are shaping up very nicely for the season.
We would have lost games like the last two last season but there is a new bite to the team this year
Congrats to all, and the 2s and 3s for giving us our first 3 wins on a sat of the season!
